The SIARC Volunteer Examiner Team is proud to be a part of the Laurel-VEC and holds Amateur Radio exam sessions on the 2nd Wednesday of every other month (see schedule below). The site is handicapped accessible.

We follow all CDC and Ontario County Public Health guidelines.

We would be happy to schedule special group exam sessions to accommodate amateur radio classes.


If you are taking the technician test for the first time you need to apply for an FRN at Register for FRN

There is NO exam fee, but the FCC charges $35 for new licenses. This fee is NOT collected at the exam session. See License fee for details.

Examinees should bring:

Effective September 7, 2017 the FCC requires applicants for new licenses, upgrades or call sign changes to answer if they have been convicted of a felony. A copy of the 605 that will be used and the instructions of what you need to do if you answer can be had by following the links indicated.

Effective December 1, 2001, the FCC will not process license application forms that do not include an FCC Registration Number, or FRN.

All applicants taking a test for the first time must have a FRN. The Web link you can register for your FRN is here. Register FRN

If you earn your first radio amateur license at a SIARC session we will waive the SIARC Membership fee for one year. SIARC Application Form

If you already hold a license, you may be able to get your FRN from one of the web-based call books: try the ARRL or QRZ.
