SIARC amateur radio operators provide communications support during the annual Pumpkin Patrol.
SIARC members staff assigned New York State Thruway overpasses on the evenings of October 30 and October 31. Operators maintain radio contact with net control and report suspicious activity, objects being thrown from bridges, traffic hazards, or other safety concerns. Volunteers may be assigned to fixed bridge locations or rover positions.
SIARC members interested in volunteering should contact the Public Service coordinator. Operators should bring appropriate radio equipment, lighting, reflective safety gear, warm clothing, and equipment suitable for several hours outdoors.

Preregistration is required. Applicants should bring identification, their FCC Registration Number, and copies of any current amateur license or valid CSCE documents being used for credit.

The Ontario County RACES / ARES net provides communications training, equipment checks, announcements and emergency communications practice. All licensed amateur radio operators are welcome to check in.
